The work of the United Board centers on the Christian
faith, higher education and Asia. It approaches its work in two
ways. In Asian countries with church-related colleges and universities,
it cooperates with those institutions to strengthen their Christian
identity. In countries where church-related colleges and universities
do not presently exist, it emphasizes projects and programs that
reflect their commitment to Christian values, perspective, and concerns.
As the 21st century begins, the United Board emphasizes
two priorities. It supports professional training for faculty, administrators,
and trustees to promote academic and institutional excellence. It
also supports linkages and networks to enhance regional cooperation
and interaction among Board-related institutions.
Operating as both a grant-making and programmatic
organization, the United Board focuses on broad comprehensive programs
to respond to the challenges and diversity of Asia. It works cooperatively
with other organizations that share their goals, such as denominations,
academic institutions and foundations. United Board funds programs
by seeking contributions from individuals, denominations, churches,
foundations, alumni of Board-related institutions, and through income
from its endowment.
